The study was carried out to examine the factor that would attract and retain in quality teachers in secondary school in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State. Description survey and simple random simply technique was adopted of which 310 respondent were used for the study. The instrument used was Attracting and Retaining Quality Teacher Questionnaire (ARQTQ). 40 items were drawn from 4 research question.
The four point scale modified version of Resins to likert scale type was used in other to determine the overall feeling of either strong agreed, Agreed, Disagreed strongly disagree of each respondents (i.e. principal and teacher). The mean response of 2.5 (N/F) used to derive the dominance of each response. The finding of the study indicated that enhanced welfare package, adequate and prompt payment of salaries, promotion, in-service training increment in salary, promotion and recruitment based on qualification and performance would attract and retain quality teachers. The research concluded with number of far-fetched recommendations.
