AN INVESTIGATIVE STUDY ON THE CAUSES OF MASS FAILURE IN MATHEMATICS IN EXTERNAL EXAMINATIONS (A CASE STUDY OF IJEBU NORTH LGA OGUN STATE)

Β

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study was to find out the causes of mass failure in Senior School Certificate Examination in Mathematics in Ijebu-North Local Government Area of Ogun State.

Data were collected through the use of relevant library materials, questionnaires, interviews and observation. The Chi square (X2) statistical test was used to analyze the data collected.

It was found that causes of mass failure in Mathematics include the following: inadequate number of qualified teachers of Mathematics; inadequate instructional materials for the teaching of the subject; poor attitudes of students towards learning the subject; inadequate period allocated to the teaching of the subject; and government’s inadequate contribution towards the teaching and learning of the subject.

It was therefore recommended that more qualified teachers and adequate instructional materials be supplied in the schools and more periods be allocated for the teaching and learning of Mathematics.

What Other Students Are Saying

β€œThe process was actually fine and I got my project quickly. The only thing I didn't really like was that I would have preferred they sent it via WhatsApp instead of email, because email took a bit of checking on my side. But once I got it, everything was already complete and I just edited small parts before submitting.”

β€œMy supervisor rejected my Chapter 1 and 2 and I was honestly lost. I got a material here and it already had everything arranged properly. I just adjusted it to my topic and resubmitted. The difference was clear immediately.”

β€œMy supervisor almost finished me 😭 He rejected everything and said I didn't understand basics. I downloaded something here, used it to restructure my work, and resubmitted. That was how I escaped serious stress.”
